Genealogy Québec

Drouin Collection Records-part 1

Joseph Drouin began gathering the data that now makes up the Drouin Collection. His son began microfilming all the parish registers in the early 1940s. He began with Quebec Province parishes, then expanded to Acadian parishes and parishes in the United States and Ontario that had large French-Canadian populations.

In the 1980s, Jean-Pierre Pepin began digitizing the microfilm scans so that the images could be viewed online. The Lafrance database is a very complete index of most of these digitized images.

Although the Lafrance database has only indexed marriage records up to 1917, the images in the Drouin Collection records go into the 1940s.

The Prévôté de Québec records were transcribed in twelve volumes by Guy Perron. You can search an index to these volumes to see if your ancestor is mentioned. If so, you can conduct a page by page search in the corresponding volume in the Prévôté de Québec collection. The volume dates in the Prévôté de Québec collection and the transcription volumes do not line up identically. Use the dates given on the front page of the Prévôté de Québec collection to help you navigate through them.
The titles of the Genealogy Quebec record collections are written in French. Bertrand has promised that he will have the titles translated into English. You will simply have to hover your mouse over a title, and the English translation will pop up. Stay tuned for that feature.

The French Canadian Heritage Society of Michigan

April 14, 11 AM, at the Mount Clemens Public Library, you can join the French Canadian Heritage Society of Michigan for double the fun. First, there will be a presentation by Paul Blanchard “about his French-Canadian related wood carvings.” Then there will be the annual get-acquainted meeting. “Bring your charts showing your descent from Louis Hébert and Marie Rollet; Abraham Martin and Marguerite Langlois; Pierre Desportes and Françoise Langlois; or Olivier Tardif and Barbe Émard; all ancestors at Québec before the ‘arrival’ of the Kirke brothers in 1629. If you do not descend from one of these couples, bring a chart from one of your earliest ancestors who immigrated to New France.”
