Who were the early settlers of Fort Ponchartrain/Detroit? What records did they leave behind? Co-authors Suzanne Sommerville, Gail Moreau-DesHarnais, and Diane Wolford Sheppard answer those questions and many more in their award-winning book, Le Détroit du Lac Érié.
Cadillac established the fort with about fifty soldiers and a group of tradesmen. Thanks in part to the Peace of Montreal in 1701, settlers followed a few years later. Records abound in this book, some previously unpublished, as well as several of Suzanne’s articles on the settling of the Detroit River region.
Don’t forget to join Suzanne in the new Maple Stars and Stripes Facebook group where she will be available to answer your questions. By joining the group, you are also automatically entered into a contest to win a copy of Le Détroit du Lac Érié.
