MSS-065-The Drouin Institute’s Lafrance Database and the PRDH

Maple Stars and Stripes fleur-de-lis logoFrench-Canadian genealogists have an almost unheard of wealth of records with which we can trace our lines back hundreds of years. The Drouin Institute provides us with easy access to these records by publishing the original parish register pages online at a nominal fee. It also publishes the reconstituted families produced by the University of Montreal’s Programme de recherche en démographie historique, or PRDH.

Today, Bertrand Desjardins takes us on a historical journey of these two major projects. He also gives us tips for using the LaFrance database and explains how to use it hand-in-hand with the PRDH for an efficient research strategy.

The Drouin Institute is also offering to all Maple Stars and Stripes listeners fifty free hits at the PRDH, whether you are a current subscriber or not. You can get the details after the interview.

In this month’s survey, be sure to submit your next favorite databases at GenealogieRecords so we can feature them first in upcoming episodes of the podcast.

We wrap up the episode with another featured blog, an update on the Nouvelle France Tour 2018, and a wide variety of educational opportunities in French-Canadian News.
