Woo-hoo!!! Another French-Canadian podcast! Jesse Martineau is producing The French-Canadian Legacy Podcast. It deals with various historical and cultural issues affecting French-Canadians.

  • To uncover the Franco-American story
  • To discuss the past, present and future of the French-Canadian identity in New England
  • To highlight those doing amazing work promoting the French-Canadian heritage and culture

Jesse is from a French-speaking Manchester, NH, family.

Josee Vachon provides the music for his podcast.

Jesse hopes to occasionally have some genealogy-related episodes. He wants to highlight the amazing contributions of the local genealogy societies.

Susan Pinette, director of Franco-American programs at the University of Maine: a discussion about what being Franco-American means to 18-year-olds, as well as what is Franco-American literature.

David Vermette, from episodes #58, The Geographic Evolution of a Franco-American Family and #76, A Distinct Alien Race: a discussion of A Distinct Alien Race, his new YouTube series, eugenics and the KKK. David is also the author of the French North America blog.

Patrick LaCroix from Query the Past: a discussion of the conditions in the 1840s which lead to people leaving Quebec

James Myall of the Parlez-Vous American? blog: He also produced Follow 1984 Day by Day, using articles from Lewiston, Maine’s American French newspaper, Le Messager. They also discussed Maine’s Governor Lepage and what took that state so long to get a Franco-American governor.

April 14- Maureen Taylor, the Photo Detective, will present Organizing and Preserving Family Photos.

April 28-Sandra Goodwin will present Crossing the Border: Locating Your Family in Quebec. It covers strategies for finding where in Quebec your family comes from when all the documents say Canada, Quebec, or some other all-encompassing term.

Classes begin at 1:30 PM and are held at the AFGS Library, 78 Earle Street, Woonsocket, RI.

April 25-I will be doing the same talk, Crossing the Border, at 6:30 PM. If you can’t make Saturday’s talk, perhaps you can attend Thursday’s.

April 13, 10:30 AM, at the Briarwood Presbyterian Church Hall in Beaconsfield: Gillian Leitch and The English in Early Montreal.
April 27, 1-4 PM, at the QFHS Heritage Centre in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec: Gary Schroder and Jackie Billingham will present the Maple Leaf and the Fleur de Lys, a seminar on research techniques for finding your ancestors in Quebec.

The Minnesota Genealogical Society’s Canadian Interest Group

April 20, 10 am-1 pm at the William J. Hoffman Library and Research Center in Mendota Heights: Canadian Morning.
